The Cretan Brotherhood of Melbourne and Victoria is celebrating its 60th anniversary. From humble beginnings in 1956 and with a lot of effort anchored at their love for their island, the Cretan migrants transformed the Brotherhood into a hub of activity and a vital part of the wider Greek community in Melbourne. At the helm now is the second generation Cretans and they have succeeded to attract the third generation to the Brotherhood. Jim Papadimitriou, president of the Cretan Brotherhood of Melbourne and Victoria, spoke to Dina Gerolymou about the 60th anniversary and why he brought the cultural group Viglatores from Chania to Melbourne.
