The NSW Federation of Community Languages and Schools held a very important conference on the maintenance of the home language or a second language on Saturday 7 October 2017 at the University of Sydney with a record of 600 plus teachers present from tens of languages taught at community schools. The emphases were on technology and its use in the classroom as well as new methodologies in teaching to entice students in language learning.

Dimitrios Kametopoulos prepared a special report that contains interviews from the NSW state Minister for Multicultural Affairs the Honourable Mr Ray Williams (exclusive interview on the Greek language program of SBS Radio), the Greek background NSW Shadow Minister for Multiculturalism, Women’s Affairs, Aging and Disability Ms Sophie Cotsis, the High Commissioner of the Republic of Cyprus in Canberra Ms Martha Mavrommati, the Greek Language Advisor at the NSW Education Department Ms Eleni Papagiannopoulou, the Principal of the Afternoon and Saturday morning schools of the Greek Orthodox Community of Sydney and NSW Ms Katerina Vetsika and the ex-Principal of the Afternoon and Saturday morning schools of the Greek Orthodox Church-Community of St Nectarios, Burwood Mr Christos Christogeorge.
