Why is Mt Athos such an important place for Orthodoxy? What do its monasteries reveal about the monks’ life and about ascetic life in general? How important has the region of Macedonia, northern Greece been for the Holy Mountain as well as itself from antiquity being a cradle of Christianity and Hellenism? Professor Melville-Jones speaks to Dimitrios Kametopoulos about the context of his talk which will take place on Thursday 12 October 2017 in Room X5B at the Museum of Ancient Cultures, at Macquarie University with refreshments provided at 6.30pm for a 7.00pm start.
