Think tank wants Australia to turn off the gas

The report by the Grattan Institute says the fossil fuel must be replaced in homes and industry. It suggest that making the switch to electric energy will ultimately be cheaper and better for health.


A new report is urging for more to be done to move households away from gas, if Australia wants to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

The report by the Grattan Institute shows gas accounts for 22 per cent of the nation's carbon emissions - with five million homes and businesses using the energy source.

It suggests that electric homes are cheaper to run and better for health.
