Labor Leader Bill Shorten is optimistic he can work with the government to make fixed four-year federal parliamentary terms a reality.

Labor Leader Bill Shorten is optimistic he can work with the government to make fixed four-year federal parliamentary terms a reality.


Mr Shorten says it would bring the Commonwealth in line with most states and territories. Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has indicated he is willing to discuss the idea with Mr Shorten, who believes the move needs bipartisan support. 

However, while his leader has shown a willingness to consider the plan, Treasurer Scott Morrison has told the ABC there are more important issues to consider.
