Greece has temporarily put “on hold” airline connection with Qatar, after 12 passengers on a plane which landed at the Athens International Airport Eleftherios Venizelos on Monday were found positive to COVID-19.

Greece’s temporary suspension of flights to and from Qatar will be in place until June 15, as announced by the country’s General Secretariat of Civil Protection.

The decision comes after the 12 incoming travellers tested positive for coronavirus.

The patients include two Greek citizens who departed from Australia, a member of a Greek-Japanese family of Japanese citizenship and nine Pakistani nationals with Greek residence permit flying from the city of Gujrat.

The 12 people were confirmed to be infected with COVID-19 following the routine tests carried out by Greece’s health authorities for all arrivals.
As per the protocol, the total 91 passengers of the Qatar Airlines flight were transferred to a quarantine hotel after the tests were conducted awaiting for results.

Those who tested positive will remain in quarantine for 14 days, while the rest deemed close contacts of patients will also stay in the quarantine hotel for 7 days. They will then undertake a repeat test for the virus.
