"Apparently the war of the Department of Immigration against me is escalating," Dennis Sykiotis wrote to The Australian newspaper in November, 1972, the tone of his letter part tongue-in-cheek, part provocation. "In the past my applications for Australian citizenship were promptly answered with a refusal," he told the paper. "The element of novelty this time was that I had not applied for naturalisation!"41-year-old Sykiotis had spent more than half his life in Australia after arriving from Greece, but was still stuck between two worlds. He tells his story here to Themi Kallos.
