Federal MP Maria Vamvakinou says the government's plan to ban asylum seekers from ever entering Australia will fail.Ms Vamvakinou made a speech in response to the Governments amendments on Migration legislation - namely the lifetime ban on all refugees. In her speech, she made reference to her experiences as a migrant, her parents, and her husband who is a refugee from Cyprus. In an interview with SBS Radio Ms Vamvakinou told Sotiris Hatzimanolis:I am a migrant myself, my husband is a refugee from Cyprus, I proudly represent one of the most multicultural constituencies in Australia. The federal seat of Calwell is home to the one of the largest Muslim communities in Australia.
