"We are in shock" says Greek-Australian in Gippsland about the fires

As the premier of Victoria, Daniel Andrews, cuts his Victorian holidays short and calls in the defence forces to help with evacuations, Antonia Krikelis, a Gippsland resident, says that the people are shocked by the severity of the fires.

As the premier of Victoria, Daniel Andrews, cuts his Victorian holidays short and calls in the defence forces to help with evacuations, Antonia Krikelis, a Gippsland resident, says that the people are shocked by the severity of the fires.


"We are not  afraid but we are in shock. We are in shock by what's happening. People here are so nice but you can tell they are worried and in shock. They look each other straight in the eyes" says Antonia Krikelis who lives in Lakes Entrance and works in Bairnsdale.

"There are many Greek her" says Ms Krikelis ' we phone each other to make sure everyone is ok every two hours or so".  

She says that it's uncertain if she'll be able to return to Lakes Entrance for New Year's Eve.
