In Cyprus, shock has been caused by three videos that have been released on the internet and show brutal beatings of recruits in a National Guard camp in Stavrovouni.
Others describe it as savage beatings, others as male bonding and others as a mere joke among recruits at a Cypriot National Guard camp in Stavrovouni. In the video uploaded on the internet by "Phileleftheros" , some soldiers are captured throwing and others accepting, punches, kicks and slaps. One soldier is heard shouting and another saying "enough".
In another video they show torture with water splashing and hoods on heads. Minister of Defense of the Republic of Cyprus Savvas Angelidis went to the camp and ordered an investigation into the images of savage abuse of national guards.
However, the soldiers involved in the case claim that these were directed videos, which they considered just funny, among national guards of the same series. The same sources clarified that no officer or non-commissioned officer of the unit was involved and that what was recorded in the video was done just between soldiers.
