The situation regarding Covid -19 infections at the Melbourne Jewish Care Victoria’s Hannah & Daryl Cohen Family Home had much improved this week, with only two residents and six staff infected with the virus. The Melbourne survivors of alleged sexual abuse by Malka Leifer greeted the Israel Supreme Court’s rejection of an appeal against her being earlier found mentally fit to stand trial and they were relieved to hear that new laws in Victoria, restricting the identification of victims, will be amended to give them the right to speak out if they so desire it. Some 220 Australians, who themselves or as children or grandchildren of Holocaust survivors from Austria, have applied to receive dual citizenship from that country, following a new Austrian law, which seeks to improve relations with such survivors and their families here, in Israel and around the world.
