Embracing motherhood - The Choice (part 2 of 3)
In this episode of Embracing Motherhood we follow Kat’s path to solo parenthood. After a miscarriage in 2017 left her newly aware of her desire for a family while still single, a colleague’s advice prompted her to consider egg freezing. At 39, after years of hesitation and a failed relationship that consumed her thirties, she completed two cycles of egg freezing. The procedure lifted the weight of expectation that had shadowed her dating life. At 42, ready both emotionally and financially, she used a donor whose openness to future contact and emphasis on a child’s origins aligned with her values. The process forced her to confront complex questions around ethnicity and identity. Her son Rami, is living proof that eggs frozen in 2020 - 21 can become a baby in 2026. Kat now advocates for egg freezing as a form of a safety net, but she doesn’t fall short on crediting privilege and luck as part of her story of modern, chosen motherhood.
