Navigating family planning requires looking past public misconceptions and understanding the biological realities of aging.

In this episode of our three-part series about embracing motherhood, we explore age-related fertility decline and the reality of egg freezing with Dr Raelia Lew a fertility specialist and gynaecologist.

According to Dr Lew, a woman's egg count diminishes, and egg quality deteriorates over time, leading to higher rates of chromosomal errors and a significantly increased risk of miscarriage by age 40.

While male aging also affects sperm quality, the physiological impact on women is particularly profound.

Ultimately, experts advocate for earlier, open conversations about reproductive health, alongside greater discussion around the high costs and accessibility barriers tied to modern fertility treatments.

Information about fertility, IVF and egg freezing is general in nature and may not apply to your individual circumstances. Listeners are encouraged to seek advice from their own GP, fertility specialist, or other qualified healthcare professional before making decisions about their reproductive health.
