A bi-partisan Parliamentary Committee in Victoria has recommended that the Victorian Government establish a criminal offence that prohibits the display of symbols of Nazi ideology, including the swastika and the NSW Government has promised to also consider their recommendations. Australian Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton confirmed he had received a recommendation from the ASIO intelligence agency to formally proscribe the neo-Nazi Sonnenkrieg Division, which has already been outlawed in Britain, as a terror group, the first extremist right wing group to be considered for such action under Australia’s tough anti-terror laws. The Federal Treasurer Josh Frydenberg announced $2m in government funding towards a new Tasmanian Holocaust Education and Interpretation Centre, as part of the Australian Government’s move to fund such centres in every state and territory in Australia. Famed music and entertainment industry impresario and son of Jewish Russian immigrants to Melbourne, Michael Gudinski e”h, died suddenly at the age of 68 and was mourned by many of the greats of Australia’s and international music world, many of whose careers he had nurtured and promoted to fame during his 50 years of indefatigable endeavour.
