Twenty six Jewish Australians were amongst the 895 Australians honoured in the Australia Day honours lists on the 26th January this year, amongst them medicine experts, philanthropists, business, community and cultural activists and other achievers. The 10 year old Thalia Hakin, former pupil of the Beth Rivka Girls College, was honoured and remembered, together with the other 5 victims killed in last years Burke Street car attack, at a memorial service at which her father Tony spoke very movingly about his beloved daughter. The child Holocaust survivor, dedicated community and Jewish education activist and respected lay Jewish historian, Sophie Caplan ev, died in Sydney recently and was honoured by community leaders and fellow activists. Anns: Dr Brendan Nelson, the director of the Australian War Memorial in Canberra will be the keynote speaker at this years International Holocaust Remembrance Day event at the Glen-Eira Town Hall, Caulfield, Vic., tonight, Sunday 28th January, 2018 at 7.00PM
