Australias Foreign Minister Julie Bishop stated, following US Pres Donald Trumps recognition of Jerusalem as Israels capital, that the Australian Embassy in Israel will remain in Tel-Aviv and that the Governments belief in a two State solution of the conflict as the best resolution remains the same. - The Labor Opposition spokesperson on Foreign Affairs Penny Wong agreed with the Foreign Ministers stance on the issue, but there were differences of opinion from the Executive Council of Australian Jews and the Palestinian Embassy spokespersons. - Whilst the Labor Premier of Victoria Daniel Andrews opened a State Business office in Tel-Aviv, the innovation and business centre of Israel, during his visit there this week, the Liberal Opposition Leader Mathew Guy criticized him for choosing that city over Jerusalem and reiterated his promise that he would open a Business and Trade office in West Jerusalem, if he is successful in the Victorian elections due in November next year. - Israels new Ambassador to Australia, Mark Sofer urged local Jewish community groups to consult with the Israeli Embassy before making statements regarding the Jewish State, following a critical statement issued by a Jewish right-of-centre group regarding Australias abstention in a routine anti-Israel resolution at the UN recently. - Jewish Labor Party Parliamentarians Mark Dreyfus and Michael Danby were at odds with each other regarding Dreyfus urging of Liberal Minister Josh Frydenberg to release his legal advice on his double citizenship status, which he may have unknowingly obtained via his Holocaust survivor mother having her citizenship automatically re-stated after the war by the Hungarian Government.
