Australian Jews expressed their concern and wishes for a speedy recovery to the former Israeli President, Prime Minister and Nobel Laureate for Peace, Shimon Peres, who was hospitalised following a severe stroke last Tuesday.Two new Australian MPs from a Jewish background, Liberal Julian Leeser and Labors Dr Mike Freelander, spoke about their Jewish families longtime Australian heritage and values, in their maiden speeches in Parliament this week.A school in Alice Springs apologised unreservedly to visiting Jewish students and their Bialik College in Melbourne, for an unfortunate, innocent mistake, when one of their students was permitted to dress-up as Adolf Hitler, as part of the dress-up for the Book Week celebrations at the school. A photograph of a Holocaust survivor Herschl Balter and his 8 year old granddaughter, showing her holding his hand and looking at his Auschwitz tattooed number, won a silver prize at the Australian Professional Photographic Awards.
