The Australian Jewish community was shocked and deeply saddened by the news of the anti-Semitic attack and murder of 11 Jewish congregants at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh and heard personal accounts from former Australian Jews, such as Rabbi Dr Danny Schiff, who live there and who knew some of those killed and wounded in the attack. Australians protesting the planned visit of far-right, avowed anti-Semites and racists, Canadian Gavin McInnes and British Tommy Robinson, on grounds that they present a significant risk to the Australian community, are still waiting to hear from the Department of Home Affairs concerning their decision regarding their entry visas. The Polish Museum of Poles Saving Jews opened a memorial orchard in Markowa, which will commemorate 1500 towns and villages in Poland, where Poles, already recognised as Righteous Among the Nations by Yad-Vashem in Jerusalem, saved Jews during WWII.
