The Parliament of NSW will introduce stronger new laws against the incitement of violence against minority groups including the Jewish community, a move that the community lobbied for together with 30 other ethnic community groups. Jewish community leaders welcomed a more Israel friendly and unbiased set of motions to be put on the agenda of the NSW Labor Party policy conference. Australia’s Foreign Minister Julie Bishop has questioned the Palestinian Authority over whether any of the nearly $44m in aid Australia sends the PA goes to paying subsidies to families of convicted terrorists doing time in Israeli jails or those killed, and has been urged to also inquire about the funding of Palestinian school texts which carry a virulent anti-Israel and anti-peace message. Jewish women representatives from 16 countries and 5 Australian states met at the International Council of Jewish Women Quadrennial Convention in Sydney and discussed many issues including human rights, saving the earth, restrictions of Jewish Orthodoxy, and women and cultural diversity.
