The Australian Jewish community has reacted strongly to the appeals for help for those suffering and fighting the terrible bushfires in Australia and the well known Jewish benefactors John and Pauline Gandel have donated one million dollars to the appeal. The Australian Jewish community was shocked to learn of yet another anti-Semitic attack on Ultra Orthodox Jews in New York, during which 5 participants were stabbed, as they participated in the candle lighting on the 7th day of Chanukah, in the home of Rabbi Chaim Rottenberg. Yaakov Litzman, the man accused of pressuring government psychiatrists to alter their reports, to prevent the extradition of an alleged paedophile Malka Leifer to Australia, has been promoted to Health Minister of Israel, despite the Zionist Federation of Australia warning Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the appointment would amount to a "slap in the face" to the Australian Jewish community.
