Australia opposed the International Criminal Court’s (ICC’s) chief prosecutor decision to launch an investigation into the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, arguing there is no “State of Palestine” and that the matter must be resolved by the two parties at the negotiating table. The Executive Council of Australian Jewry’s head, Peter Wertheim has warned that draft religious freedom laws could restrict the power of religious hospitals, aged care facilities and housing providers to give preference to people of their own faith when admitting patients or choosing board members. The federal government has committed a $6 million grant to the redevelopment of Perth's Jewish Community Centre, which will include a new Holocaust museum and a William Cooper memorial.
