The prominent Israeli Rabbi Itzhak Grossman who pleaded for Malka Leifer the former principal of the Addass Israel School in Melbourne, who is facing 74 charges of sexual abuse and assault against former students at the school, and who has so far avoided extradition on grounds of alleged mental illness, to be placed under house arrest, had completely withdrawn his plea following protests in Australia and Israel. The Yeshiva Colleges in Melbourne and Sydney and the Adass-Israel College in Melbourne have not yet decided whether they will join the National Redress Scheme for survivors of child sexual abuse and are waiting for the legislation to be completed and passed by Federal and State legislatures before deciding to join. The Executive Council of Australian Jewry commissioned a poll on Australians views on the recognition of a Palestinian State, which showed only low support for such a move without a prior peace agreement with Israel, but a much stronger support for Australias recognition of Jerusalem as Israels capital
