Australian Jewish community was shocked and saddened over the attack at the Sarona Market Centre in Tel-Aviv, whilst Australian embassy staff in Tel-Aviv posted a Facebook photo of gathering at the centre soon afterwards and adding a moving statement of sympathy and solidarity with the Israeli people.Jewish Australians against child sexual abuse, including Manny Wex, the Tsedek organisation, and the Israeli Ambassador Dave Sharma, expressed shock and disgust over the dismissal of extradition proceedings against Malka Leifer, accused on 74 charges of child sexual abuse in Melbourne and they have expressed their determination to fight on, to get her extradited and to continue to combat such abuse in the community.Justice Minister Michael Keenan announced a $40m Safe Communities fund that the Government will make available, if re-elected and Jewish community leaders welcomed it as a much needed boost to also strengthen security at Jewish schools, synagogues and other institutions in Australia.
