Anne Zahalka, "Finding Margarete"

Source: SBS
Our special guest is the artist Anne Zahalka. A few years ago, after her mother’s death, she discovered a pile of letter she’s never seen before. The letters were from Anne’s grandmother, starting in Vienna in 1938, after Margarete’s daughters escaped to England and she remained trapped in war torn Europe, writing to her daughters, trying desperately to reunite with them. The granddaughter pieced together the letters to find out the faith of her grandmother, who was murdered in Auschwitz. SBS online together with Anne, published the letters under the title: Nobody loves you more than me…Finding Margarete, an untold story from the Holocaust. I spoke to Anne Zahalka about the project and I invite you to go to SBS on-line to read the incredible story and see the photos.
