Don't miss our Yiddish report... Despite strong support for the current protests in the USA and in Australia over black deaths in custody, the Jewish community here and overseas was angered and disturbed by accusations and blame from some of the protests, of Israel’s training of the police in the USA and the use of similar tactics by Israeli police and military against the Palestinians. Three years after the rejection of the Uluru Statement from the Heart, by the Turnbull Government, Jewish leaders and roof bodies and other Jewish organizations recommitted themselves to supporting the Uluru statement and the Aboriginal peoples’ fight for constitutional recognition and justice. Bella Hirshorn a Holocaust survivor in her 90s, was the first ever recipient of an AM Order of Australia invested on her via Zoom because of Covid-19, by the Governor of Victorian Linda Dessauer, for Bella’s 62 year voluntary work for WIZO and women in general.
