The Israeli Supreme Court rejected the appeal by Malka Leifer’s lawyers against her extradition to Victoria to be tried on 74 charges of sexual abuse of children when she was the Principal of the Adass Israel ultraorthodox school in Melbourne, before fleeing to Israel in 2008 and the Israeli Justice Minister is expected to sign off on her extradition shortly. The Jews for Refugees group in Melbourne protested outside the offices of the Australian Treasurer Josh Frydenberg MP, himself a son of a Holocaust refugee, claiming that he has not responded to their letters protesting the treatment of refugees by the Australian Government, sent to him by the group during the last 6 years. Hanukah festival candle lighting celebrations and ceremonies were held in most Australian Parliaments, with the participation of Australia’s political leaders, parliamentarians, State Premiers, Mayors and officials, as well as representatives of various religious groups.
