The Royal Commission on Antisemitism and Social Cohesion was formally established by the Australian Government on 9 January 2026, in the immediate aftermath of the December 2025 Bondi terrorist attack, with a mandate to investigate the nature, causes and impacts of antisemitism and to strengthen social cohesion nationwide.

The Jewish Centre for Law and Justice is playing a complementary role on the legal front. The organisation provides advice and representation to those affected, while also working on wider legal strategies to strengthen protections and accountability. Together, these efforts are helping build both the evidence base and the legal response ahead of the Commission’s first report.

SBS Hebrew spoke to Alessandra Steele, who is an executive lawyer and the CEO of the centre, to better understand the process of the submission to the Royal Commission and about their services to the community.
