The anniversary of the Kristallnacht Pogrom of the 9th to 10th November 1938, perpetrated by the Nazis against Jews, their community, their homes, synagogues, organisations and businesses in Germany and Austria, was commemorated in Melbourne and Sydney with the guest speaker Dr Stephen Smith, Director of the US Shoah Foundation. Jewish members of communities affected by the horrendous bushfires in NSW have described the terrible conditions they and their neighbours faced in the past couple of weeks, whilst several Jewish organisations have opened shelters for any persons who have been evacuated and provided food to fire-fighters and other volunteers. - The Jewish Board of Deputies of NSW, as well as other Jewish social welfare and religious charity organisations have begun fundraising activities amongst the Jewish community to assist those who have lost property and contents in the bush-fires in NSW and Qld.
