Velvel Lederman Known as Uncle Velvel talks about 70th anniversary of the arrival of Holocaust survivors to Australia Velvel Lederman is an educator /entertainer at the local Jewish school. He is also a 2nd generation holocaust survivor of the Jewish survivors that were sponsored to come to Australia after the war This year on 21 May 2019 marks 70 years since the LUCIANA MANARA arrived at wharf 5 at circular quay The descendants of those families on board and even some original children who are now in their 70s will gather at the exact wharf for a thanksgiving ceremony celebrating the start of a new special life in this great country The event will take place on Sunday 19 may at 11 am at wharf 5 at circular quay. Many of the surviving passengers from these boats started a brand new life in Sydney and many created successful businesses and become a great asset to the community
