Hundreds of Jewish Australians participated in the Yom Hazikaron commemorations and Yom Hatzmaut celebrations of Israels Remembrance Days last Tuesday and Wednesday.An Israeli court has again postponed, because of a psychiatric report, an extradition hearing against Malka Leifer, the former headmistress of Melbournes Adass-Israel school, who is required to face 74 criminal charges in Australia, including those of child sexual abuse. Sydney Universitys vice-Chancellor Dr Michael Spence has declared anti-Semitic abuse and attacks on campus as unacceptable and promised positive action whilst maintaining the close relations with Israeli academic institutions and the Australian Jewish community. The Victorian Education Minister James Merlino has rejected a call by the Bnai-Brith Defamation Commission to ban a play about a love affair in Gaza from the VCE curriculum, on the grounds that it is very biased, anti-Israel and could cause prejudice against Jewish students
