12-year-old Indian boy dies, mother and sister fighting for life after a car crash

An Indian family has lost a child in a multi-vehicle crash in Sydney’s north-west on Saturday.

A 12-year-old boy died on the spot after their Captiva was hit by a Holden Commodore travelling on the westbound M2 at the intersection of Windsor Road and the M2.

The boy, who was travelling in the back seat in the car, died at the scene, while his mother and sister were critically injured. The mother Ms Pooja Sharma and her five-year-old daughter are fighting for life at Westmead hospital and Westmead children hospital respectively.

The family, which hails from Karnal district in Haryana (India), lives in Westmead. A neighbour told SBS Hindi that the father Mr Arun Sharma, who was driving in the car, is in a state of shock. Friends from the community are helping the grieving family.
According to police, a 34-year-old man has been charged with 10 offences including; dangerous driving occasioning death, fail to stop and assist after vehicle impact causing death, dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm (x2), cause bodily harm by misconduct, in charge of motor vehicle (x3), aggravated dangerous driving occasioning death – speed more than 45km/h over speed limit, and aggravated dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm – speed more than 45km/h over speed limit (x2).

Police say the impact caused by the Holden Commodore was so severe that the Captiva hit four other vehicles after being hit.
“The driver of the Corolla, a 65-year-old man, and his passenger, a 58-year-old woman, were taken to Westmead Hospital for treatment to minor injuries,” said police in a statement.

The drive of the Holden had allegedly run from the scene. He was arrested at a house on The Circle, Narraweena, and taken to Manly Police Station on Sunday Morning. Police are investigating the incident.
