The Indian Express reports that the food regulators of four Indian states found nine products of major companies to be “substandard.”
The food regulators of Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Haryana, and Assam have reported that these products failed quality tests conducted between April 2016 and January 2017.
These products include soft drinks to oil:
- Pepsico India Holdings Private Ltd’s Mirinda,
- Nestle India Ltd’s Cerelac Wheat,
- Adani Wilmar Ltd’s Fortune oil,
- Marico India’s Saffola Gold oil,
- Parle Agro’s Frooti,
- Herbalife’s energy drink,
- Murugappa group’s Parry packaged drinking water,
- Haldiram’s Aloo Bhujia, and
- a cheese spread used by the Subway chain.
This was according to information sought under the Right to Information (RTI) Act by the Indian Express.
According to the Hindustan Times some of the queries in the matter are sub judice.
The newspapers reported that in a number of cases, these companies have either questioned the test procedure or have asked for re-analysis of the samples.
