One of the highly sought after occupation for migration purposes has been closed to applicants by the Sunshine state after it was removed the Queensland Skilled Occupation Lists.

Business and Skilled Migration Queensland is no longer accepting applications for state sponsorship from ‘Accountants’.

“Accountant (General) (221111) will be removed from all the Queensland Skilled Occupation Lists (QSOLs) on 17 September 2018 as BSMQ has received many expressions of interest for this occupation and has filled the quota,” the state’s website announced on Monday.

“If you have not received an invitation by today, BSMQ is no longer able to issue any new invitations.

“BSMQ may open this occupation later if the current invitees do not respond in the required time frame,” it said.

Brisbane-based migration consultant Seema Chauhan says this new development is likely to affect many Indian international students.

“Accountants is one of the most of highly sought after occupation for state sponsorship as the competition is very high,” she explains.

“With the points-based system, you need really high points to be able to migrate with Accountant as your occupation. State sponsorship helps in getting those crucial extra points.

“Many Indian international students who do not have enough points look towards state sponsorship. With this closure, it seems BSMQ has received a high number of applications already. Those who were yet to apply, especially Indian international students, could be affected as we can’t say when it will re-open again as the quota has been filled,” Ms Chauhan told SBS Hindi.
