Singapore Airline’s long haul budget carrier, Scoot, which wanted a name for its Dreamliner with an Indian connect, has decided to call its fleet, ‘Kamascootra’.
The Times of India reported that the 12th Boeing 787 Dreamliner being inducted into Scoot’s fleet which will be mainly deployed on India routes will be called 'Kamascootra' as the airline authorities found it ‘quirky’ and ‘funny’.
"We wanted a name with an Indian connect... something that is quirky and funny. We considered naming the plane after superstar Rajnikanth's name like Thalaivar or something associated with Sachin Tendulkar like his jersey number or birth date. Finally we opted for Kamascootra," said Scoot's India head Bharath Mahadevan to TOI.
"To commemorate our India services, we decided to name the aircraft after an ancient Indian art form. The name expresses desire. The desire to fly," he said.
The Kamascootra will be used on the inaugural Singapore-Jaipur flight on October 2.
Scoot started its India operations from Chennai and Amritsar this May.
