Two years later, 33-year-old Luqman Asghar will be out on bail on November 2, The Courier Mail reports.
Asghar appeared in the Supreme Court in Brisbane on Thursday where Justice Peter Davis granted him bail from November 2nd.
Asghar has been charged with more than 60 counts of obtaining or dealing with another person’s identification information.
His accomplice, 36-year-old New Zealand citizen, Syed Imran has been charged with forgery and obtaining or dealing with identification information.
The Courier Mail reports one of the fake names allegedly used by the pair was that of famous Indian sitar master Ravi Shankar and of a well-known Indian motivational speaker Rahul Kapoor.
The police believe the duo have hidden some $1.1 million in crime proceeds at a secret location.
Asghar, who holds Pakistani and Italian passports, was arrested in Perth on September 25th when he was ‘attempting to board a flight overseas’.
Police found a credit card, a “high quality forged” Victorian driver’s licence in an allegedly fake name, two Pakistani passports allegedly held in false names and designer clothing in his luggage at the time of his arrest.
Explaining a delayed bail, Justice Davis said police will have the time to share the names of Asghar’s various aliases with airports and the Australian Federal Police.
Justice Davis said it appeared that Syed was the “primary offender” in allegedly running a business of “creating false identification documents and then using these ... to obtain money and goods in various ways”.
Asghar faces up to 14 years behind bars if convicted.
