Anumula Gitesh Sarma appointed India’s High Commissioner to Australia

A 1986 batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, Anumula Gitesh Sarma has been appointed as India’s High Commissioner to Australia.

The announcement was made by India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Monday evening.

He is expected to take up the assignment shortly, the MEA said.

His counterpart, the Australian High Commissioner to India H.E. Harinder Sidhu welcomed Mr Sarma’s appointment as the next High Commissioner.

"We all look forward to working with you," Ms Sidhu said.
Mr Sarma has previously served as the Indian envoy to Uzbekistan, Fiji and Vanuatu and will replace Mr AM Gondane as the High Commissioner to Australia.

He had been serving as the Secretary (West) in the MEA before the appointment on Monday.
