A Singapore-bound flight had to be escorted by the two fighter jets of Singapore Airforce after a caller claimed there was a bomb on board the plane.
The Republic of Singapore Air Force posted on Facebook that two of its fighter jets escorted a Singapore Airlines plane till it landed safely at Changi Airport.
"Heard the roar of our fighters early this morning? That's because two of our F-16C/Ds were scrambled to intercept a Singapore Airlines flight from Mumbai to Singapore after receiving a bomb threat. Our fighters escorted the airliner till it landed safely at Changi Airport," the Facebook post read.
The incident occurred on Monday night when the officials at Mumbai's CST International airport received a call about the bomb at 1:48am, over two hours after the Singapore Airlines flight SQ423 took off.
According to the media reports, Singapore Airlines has confirmed the incident. A report by the Hindustan Times has quoted an airlines spokesperson saying, "Singapore Airlines confirms there was a bomb threat concerning SQ423 operating from Mumbai to Singapore. The aircraft arrived in Singapore on 26 March 2019 at about 0800hrs (local time). We are assisting the authorities with the probe."
The plane arrived in Singapore 31 minutes behind schedule.
A police officer from Sahar police station told SBS Hindi over the phone that the case has been registered. The officer, who did not wish to be named, said, "The Airlines has reported an incident. We have registered a case."
Apparently, the caller was unhappy with the airline's services and wanted the plane to get late.
