Australian man fined in India

Stuart Ian Scott of Queensland has been fined Rs. 8000 by Indian officials.

Scott was using a Satelite phone without prior Government permission.

Scott, 46, was detained by Indian police on Wednessday from a Yoga Ashram in Uttrakhand. Police officer Deepak Rawat told ABC, "We received an information that a satellite phone is being used at a place near Badrinath. After reaching there, we found a satellite phone of Thoraiya company with him."

Scott admitted to possesing a Satelite phone, according to Rawat.

According to Telegraph and Wireless Act, certain communications devices such as Satelite phones are not allowed to be used in India without prior Government permission.
