Australia’s first-ever Indian aged-care facility coming up in Noble Park, Melbourne has got a green nod from the council.
“The City of Greater Dandenong recently issued us a Town Planning permit and our next phase has commenced,” MiCare, the aged-care facility developer told SBS Hindi.
The facility will be a five-story building with underground parking and has been designed to accommodate both the cultural needs of the Indian community and the current and future needs of the ageing population.

The specialized aged-care centre will house 108 beds, a community hall for cultural celebrations, a commercial kitchen, a cafeteria and a museum.
Each additional floor will accommodate resident rooms which will all be a single room with ensuite bathrooms set in a household configuration of 10-12 rooms in each. Each household will share a kitchen, dining area and lounge area. We will have a number of larger shareable family rooms on each floor to accommodate couples.

“We have members from each region from across India who are being consulted for this project,” Mr Vasan Srinivasan, member of the Australian Multicultural Council told SBS Hindi.
“We understand that seniors with dementia tend to revert to their mother-tongue and prefer their cultural food in old age.
“English is our second language and this centre will allow seniors in our community to interact in their language and will serve them food from their palate,” Mr Srinivasan said.
“108 is a pious and a special number in our community. We hope to have a ground-breaking ceremony soon in presence of the Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison,” he said.
“The construction should start this year and we hope it will ready by the end of 2020,” Mr Srinivasan said.
