BJP set for huge win in Delhi (5 important updates)

The ruling party in India, the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) is set to retain national capital’s local bodies, based on the early trends emerging on Wednesday morning.

Elections for three municipal corporations in Delhi were held on Sunday.

While BJP is leading by huge margins and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress Party are now fighting for the number 2 spot.

Here are five important updates:

  1. Early vote counts revealed BJP was ahead in 181 of 272 wards, AAP in 46 and the Congress in 29 wards.
  2. After losing Punjab and Goa assembly elections, this is third loss for AAP this year.
  3. This is BJP’s third important electoral victory after winning Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand by a landslide.
  4. NDTV reports the Congress has been decimated once again who was hoping for revival of their party’s performance after the 2015 Delhi assembly elections debacle where they did not win a single seat.
  5. AAP’s Gopal Rai said, “This is not a Modi wave, but an EVM wave. This is the same wave that they (BJP) used in the Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Punjab polls.”
