It was a trial that grabbed headlines in Canada.

The love triangle between three Indian-origin Canadian nationals resulted into death of one and on Wednesday a jury found 37-year-old Gurpreet Ronald and her lover 41-year-old Bhupinderpal Gill guilty of murdering Gill's wife.

After a nine week trial in an Ottawa Court, the jury found both lovers guilty of killing 43-year-old Jagtar Gill who was found dead in the family home in January 2014.

Married to Bhupinderpal Gill and mother of three, Jagtar Gill was stabbed and bludgeoned to death on her 17th wedding anniversary.

Gurpreet Ronald and Bhupinderpal Gill worked together as fellow bus drivers with Ottawa's OC Transpo. They also were neighbours and in a relationship.

The duo conspired to kill Gill's wife so that they could be together, the jury heard during the trial.

Since they "dreamed of being together", they plotted the murder of Gill's wife.

Gurpreet Ronald, mother of two girls and married to Jason Ronald, admitted that she had an affair with Gill, during the testimony.

But she told the jury that her sexual relationship with Gill was "not satisfactory" and that she had an affair with another fellow driver at the same time while she was in a relationship with Gill, the Ottawa Citizen reported.

Her lawyer told the jury that she depended on Gill only for "emotional support, a shoulder to cry upon" and she had no intention of being with him.

During his testimony, Gill told the jury that he ended his affair with Gurpreet in 2013 before his wife was killed in January 2014.

During the trial, a psychic also testified that Gill and Gurpreet had consulted her about their future together.

Gurpreet's husband, Jason Ronald also testified and told the jury how his wife had tried to attack him with a knife many times.

After a highly publicized Superior Court trial in Canada, Gill and Ronald were found guilty of first-degree murder on Wednesday.

The courtroom erupted in applause and Jagtar's parents broke down sobbing, reported the CBC.

Neither Gill or Ronald showed emotion after their verdicts were announced and both declined to make a statement in court.

They both receive automatic life sentences with no chance of parole for 25 years, CBC reported.
