A drunk man raped a woman in broad daylight on a street in India over the weekend — and onlookers filmed the crime instead of helping the woman, according to local police.

The attack happened near a railway station in Visakhapatnam on Sunday, Hindustan Times reports.

The police identified suspect as 23-year-old truck cleaner Ganji Siva.

Siva was arrested for the attack on the 43-year-old victim and has been sent to judicial custody.

Police said the woman had left her home following a family dispute and was weak from starvation.

“Apparently, she was very weak as she had not eaten for several hours and was sleeping on the footpath under the shadow of a tree, when Siva, in an inebriated condition assaulted her sexually,” police inspector K. Suresh told the Hindustan Times.

But instead of calling for help, passersby pulled out their cellphones.

“Some of them were more interested in capturing the incident on their mobile phones. After some time, an auto driver, RG Srinu, shot a short video of it and brought it to our notice,” the police inspector said.

Video of the horrific incident shows the man sexually assaulting the victim.

“It clearly shows how the people have become insensitive to attacks on women,” said Suresh.

By the time police responded to the scene, Siva had fled, but cops later tracked him down and arrested him.

The woman was taken to a hospital for a medical evaluation following the incident.

Indian Minister for Women and Child Development, Maneka Gandhi lashed out at those who recorded the video and demanded they too be booked under law.

"Everybody here is culpable...the people who were thrill seekers preferring to let a woman suffer rather than help her. I am totally outraged by their behaviour...by the behaviour of the man who raped her and by the people who by doing nothing helped it happen," she told PTI.
