Chhota Rajan, three others jailed in fake passport case

The court noted that Chhota Rajan acquired a fake passport under the name of Mohan Kumar from Passport Office in Bengaluru and later from Consulate General of India, Sydney, Australia.

Chhota Rajan and three retired Indian Passport officials were jailed in India after being found guilty in fake passport case.

A Delhi court on Tuesday sentenced them to 7-year-jail term, The Indian Express reports.

The court has also fined each of them with Rs 15000.

The three retired public servants who were found guilty and convicted of helping Rajan to obtain a fake passport by ‘entering into a criminal conspiracy’ are Deepak Shah, Lalitha Lakshmanan and Jayashree Rahate.

All the four accused were convicted of cheating, using a forged document, forgery for the purpose of cheating, forgery of valuable security or will, cheating by impersonation and criminal conspiracy under the Indian Penal Code and Passport Act.

The court heard and noted that Chhota Rajan aka Rajendra Sadashiv Nikhalje, first acquired a fake passport under the name of Mohan Kumar from Regional Passport Office in Bengaluru and later from Consulate General of India, Sydney, Australia.

It was alleged he used fabricated documents to establish himself as Mohan Kumar while applying for this passport.

Rajan, is reported to have been a close aide of Indian underworld figure Dawood Ibrahim.

He was arrested in Bali in October 2015 and later deported to India.
