Craigieburn-based Indian student Jagjeet Singh's mother passed away on Monday. She had been visiting her son but suffered a brain stroke three months ago and was fighting for life in the Royal Melbourne Hospital.

According to Mr Manjit Boprai of the Australian National Sikh Sports and Cultural Council, which is helping the family in the difficult times, the family has already spent over $400,000 for the treatment.
"Although the insurance company covered a major part of the treatment, the family still needs our financial support," he said.

Mr Boprai is running a fundraising campaign on Facebook. Around $20,000 has so far been raised.

"The family does not want the body to be repatriated. They are performing the last rites in Melbourne," told Mr Boprai.
