Community reacts strongly to stopping Indian High Commissioner at a Gurudwara in Melbourne

Indian community in Australia has reacted strongly to the incident in which Indian High Commissioner to Australia Mr. A M Gondane was refused entry into a Sikh temple in Melbourne.

The incident, that happened over the weekend in Melbourne, has received sever criticism from many. SBS Hindi asked its radio listeners to give their opinion and many of the listeners who called opined that it was an unfortunate incident.

One listener Mr. who himself lost his father during terrorism in Punjab strongly criticized the youths who stopped Mr. Gondane. Vikas, who lives in Melbourne, told on air, "Freedom speech does not give you the right to speak anything. You should respect a person who represents the country. My father was killed by terrorists. I never say that I would not live in Punjab. "

Another listener Mr. Harjot Singh of Sydney said that the temple was not a place to express this anger but the anger in itself is justified.

Virendra of Melbourne said that these youths could have expressed their anger differently.

Mr. Gondane was in Melbourne on an official visit. He was scheduled to visit the Tarneit gurudwara sahib at 8am on Saturday, November18. He was stopped by some youths amid loud protests.

One of the protesters Harkirat Singh Ajnoha, who can be seen in the video, told SBS Punjabi that they were protesting the arrest of 47 Sikh youths in recent times.  “We want to raise awareness about the human rights violations in Punjab and recognition of the Sikh genocide,” said Mr. Ajnoha.
