46-year-old taxi driver Nadeem Usman was beaten and his head stomped upon by a couple who he had picked up from a Cronulla club, Sydney in June 2016.
According to 7News, the couple, Jay Belgrove and his girlfriend Georgia-Lee Pickett were ‘highly intoxicated’ at the time after having consumed over 20 alcoholic drinks, cocaine and cannabis, the court was told.
Usman refused to drive them further and stopped over at a service station.
Angered at not being driven home, Belgrove got out of the cab and tried to rip off one of the taxi door. The taxi driver Nadeem fled the car and ran onto the street.
But the CCTV footage captured at the service station showed Belgrove allegedly knocking him to the ground and stomping on his head. His girlfriend, Pickett too was seen joining in.
Two teenagers Ryan Barrett and Bailey Cooper who inside the 7-Eleven outlet at the service station along with 7-Eleven worker Kashif Khan rushed to help Nadeem.
Khan dialed 000 and called for help.
The alleged offenders, Belgrove and his girlfriend were arrested soon after.
On Monday, the pair pleaded guilty to stomping Nadeem’s head in a drunken rage.
And today, Jay Belgrave was sentenced 3 years, 8 months jail for this sickening attack and his former girlfriend, Georgia Lee-Picket was sentenced 18 months in jail.
The duo plan to appeal their jail sentences.
