Indian athlete Dutee Chand has won the gold medal in the women’s 100-metre sprint at the 30th Summer University Games in Naples on Tuesday.

Chand, who clocked in 100 metres in 11.32 seconds, is the first Indian to win a 100-metre gold at a global event.
‘Picked it up!’ the 23-year-old wrote on Twitter on winning.

Del Ponte (11.33) of Switzerland took silver and Lisa Kwayie of Germany took the bronze in 11.39 seconds.

Chand is the only second Indian sprinter to clinch the top spot at a global event after Hima Das, who won the 400m gold at the World Junior Athletics Championships last year.

Dutee has previously won a silver in both the 100m and 200m in the 2018 Asian Games.

Chand, who recently revealed she's in a same-sex relationship, later tweeted: "Pull me down, I will come back stronger!"
Wishes poured in from across the world for the champion, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi calling it ‘an exceptional achievement’.
