Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh is touring Australia to seek investments for the state. He travelled to Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney during this visit and met several politicians, business people and prominent members of the community.

Chhattisgarh was ranked 4th in the last 'ease of doing business' ranking within India. Chhattisgarh is a mineral rich and power surplus state. It is one of the newest states in India and became a separate state in November 2000. Chhattisgarh has also had to deal with Maoist violence since its inception.

Dr Raman Singh is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and became the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh in 2003. He is currently in his third term as Chief Minister. In an exclusive interview given to SBS Hindi's Senior Producer Pallavi Jain, Dr Singh mentioned that Chhattisgarh should be an attractive destination for investors as it is a power surplus state, has land and water availibility and is in the center of India. He also mentioned that Australia is known for its mining safety and technology and this was one area where there was potential for development. Dr Singh said that Chhattisgarh was a good destination for investors looking for long term investments.

On the issue of maoist violence Dr Singh indicated that progress has been made from 2003 and claimed that he has won the confidence of the tribals now with fast paced development activities. Dr Singh is also hopeful that there could be complete peace in the state in context of maoist violence in the next three to four years.

When we asked Dr Singh if BJP will be able to perform as well in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections as it did in 2013 General elections when it won 10 out of 11 seats, given that there could be a potential anti-incumbency factor, he replied that this time they will win all 11 seats!
