The stadium will be the first stadium in Uttarakhand to host an international match. Arvind Pandey, Sports Minister for the State, told SBS Hindi that the stadium has been ready for a long time, however, due to the absence of the cricket board’s decision, no match could be hosted there.

Mr Pandey said he was happy that the stadium will be finally be inaugurated by an international series.  “Because of internal differences between the cricket associations, the ‘Ranji’ match scheduled for the stadium could not be played,” he said.

“People were not very happy about it, but we are fortunate that finally a international series will be played here”

A few days ago, the ICC tweeted about the match.

Afghanistan Cricket Board also confirmed this news with a tweet

According to the Sports Minister, former fast bowler, Javagal Srinath described the field as great during his visit as a BCCI representative.

“Javagal Srinath was mesmerised during his visit and he admired the stadium being fully equipped and beautiful.”

Mr Pandey said ongoing talks between the state government and the BCCI could see  Uttarakhand with its own Cricket Board which would be a great outcome for Uttarakhand’s cricket players.
