Former Chief Minister of Punjab, Beant Singh’s grandson, Harkirat Singh (41) allegedly committed suicide in Chandigarh on Sunday, Times of India reported.

He shot himself in the head with his licensed pistol.

"My brother was a depression patient undergoing treatment since 1995. Two months ago, he came out of coma after an accident last year," said his cousin and Ludhiana MP Ravneet Bittu.
While Harkirat's elder brother Gurkirat is MLA from Khanna, his father Tej Parkash was a cabinet minister in the 1990s. His grandfather, Beant Singh was the Chief Minister of Punjab from 1992 to 1995.

Police said his wife was home at the time when Harkirat took out his .33mm pistol and shot himself in the head. He lived in a government house in Chandigarh.

Two former Congress CMs Capt Amarinder and Rajinder Kaur Bhattal paid their condolences to the family and Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal too mourned Harkirat's death.
